The Leica
R6 is the first SLR camera to be assembled in the new Leica factory at Solms.
It is designed for fully manual operation and is provided with a mechanically
controlled metal blind focal plane shutter
Exposure metering is similar to
that in the Leica M6, under or over exposure being indicated by arrow shaped
LED's in the viewfinder.
Sensitivity of the exposure meter is 2EV greater than that of the R5.
Both integrating and selective metering are provided. The shutter is speeded
from 1 to 1/1000 sec. plus B and X. Aperture and shutter speed
have to be set
manually.
There is an electronic self timer but requires the use of a battery.
The R6 also has a lock-up mirror last seen on the original Leicaflex.
Externally the camera is similar
in appearance to the Leica R5, except that the shutter dial is taller, for
easier operation,
the red roundel and model number 'R6' are on the opposite sides compared with earlier versions.
Production period 1988 - 1992.
Total production 14000 in black ,
2250 in silver version.
